"A recent law-school graduate in need of a job, she told General Counsel Steve Griffiths during a job interview that all she knew about Duke came from Harlan County U.S.A. The Oscar-winning documentary film took a stridently anti-Duke stance in its account of a bitter miners’ strike at a Duke-owned coal company. She then declined a job offer because of her objections to nuclear power.

Now she’s president of Duke Energy Corp.’s office of nuclear development."
