"Representatives of the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) met with Commissioner Mignon Clyburn and her chief of staff, Angela Kronenberg Thursday, seeking her support for opening an official inquiry into 'the extent and effects of hate speech in media.'


That is according to an ex parte filling at the commission from NHMC VP Jessica Gonzalez outlining the meeting topics. Gonzalez was also in attendance."

"Governor Mark Sanford has proclaimed September 12-18 as Lifeline Awareness Week in South Carolina."

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The Public Service Commission and the Office of Regulatory Staff met with residents Thursday to explain how they can get connected.
Lifeline and Link-up are two programs available to low-income individuals and families.
Lifeline provides a $13.50 discount to eligible consumers on their monthy phone bills.
“It’s exciting to have a program like this to provide access to community services,” says Dawn Hipp of the Office of Regulatory Staff.  “In this economy, many folks are job seeking and so, if they don’t have a telephone, this provides them the opportunity to have one.”
Residents who do not currently have telephone service, Link-up offers a 50 percent discount on installation.
For more information, consumers should call the local telephone company or the Office of Regulatory Staff

"The Herald of Rock Hill reports Friday the city will wait for its attorney to meet with a lawyer for the Miller Pond neighborhood before deciding what to do next.

The city had planned to start shutting off water Monday after only 20 of the 121 property owners agreed to be annexed. South Carolina law requires 75 percent to agree for annexation to proceed."

Senate Republicans may use a markup of EPA’s annual spending bill Thursday to try and block the agency from implementing new climate change rules.

An amendment to thwart EPA could gain traction on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which includes five Democrats who have previously backed proposals to delay or scuttle limits on greenhouse gases from power plants and other sources."

"Clyburn is the original sponsor of the Rural Star bill. He is joined by cosponsors Rep. Henry Brown, R-S.C., Rep. Bob Inglis, R-S.C., Rep. John Spratt, D-S.C. and Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., is a sponsor of a companion bill in the Senate.
If Congress approves, the program would provide $4.9 billion in federal funding for low-interest loans that could help as many as 1.6 million electric cooperative consumers nationwide make energy- and money-saving home improvements."
